Ms. Bates is a former Chairman of the Association of Investment Companies and is currently non-executive Chairman of JPMorgan American Investment Trust and a non-executive Director of New India Investment Trust, Polar Capital Technology Trust, St James's Place, Witan Pacific Investment Trust and Development Securities.

Ms. Bates is also Chairman of the Stena (UK) pension fund, Rutley Russia Property Fund Limited, a member of the Investment Committee of the Daily Mail and General Trust Pension Funds and an adviser to East Riding Pension Fund. ■
