United Airlines promotes CEO Oscar Munoz to executive chairman

Oscar MunozUnited Airlines announced that Oscar Munoz, chief executive officer, will transition to the role of executive chairman of the board of United Airlines Holdings in May 2020.
Oscar Munoz will serve as Executive Chairman for a one-year term.

Mr. Munoz was named president and chief executive officer of United Airlines on September 8, 2015.

Mr. Munoz had been serving as a member of the board of directors of parent company United Continental Holdings (UCH) since its formation with the 2010 merger between United and Continental.

He had been a member of Continental's board of directors since 2004.

J. Scott Kirby, President, will succeed Munoz as Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Kirby was recruited to United Airlines in August 2016, after a three decade career in the commercial airline business.
