Under Armour chief executive Kevin Plank to step down

Kevin PlankKevin Plank, who founded Under Armour, announced he is stepping down as CEO.
Kevin Plank has served as Under Armour's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 1996 and as the company's President from 1996 to July 2008 and from August 2010 to July 2017.

The business began in 1995 when Mr. Plank created a new category of sporting apparel called performance apparel.

He will be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Patrik Frisk, effective January 1.

Mr. Frisk has been President and Chief Operating Officer since July 2017.

Mr. Frisk has 30 years of experience in the apparel, footwear and retail industry.

Most recently, he was CEO of The ALDO Group, a global footwear and accessories company.

Previous to that, Mr. Frisk spent 10 years with VF Corporation where he served as the Coalition President of Outdoor Americas with responsibility for The North Face, Timberland, JanSport, lucy and SmartWool brands.

Before that, he was President of the Timberland brand and prior to that, was President of Outdoor and Action Sports (EMEA) where he had responsibility for The North Face, Vans, JanSport and Reef brands.

Previous to that, he was Vice President and General Manager of The North Face.

Before VF Corporation, Mr. Frisk ran his own retail business in Scandinavia and held senior positions with Peak Performance and W.L. Gore and Associates.
