Trinidad Drilling chairman Michael Heier resigns

Trinidad DrillingTrinidad Drilling, a contract driller, announced that Michael Heier, chairman and founder, has resigned.
Mr. Heier founded Trinidad in 1995 as a small, Saskatchewan-based drilling company, initially to fill a need he saw in the market for high-quality, high-performance rigs.

Mr. Heier was Trinidad's chief executive officer and a director from the company's beginning through to 2008.

During that time, he played an integral part in the expansion of the company's fleet (both through organic growth and acquisition).

Mr. Heier stepped down as chief executive officer and remained as the chairman of the board.

Ken Stickland, previously Trinidad's lead director, has been appointed as chairman.

Mr. Stickland has been an independent director of Trinidad since 2004 and has been lead director since 2009.

Mr. Stickland has extensive experience in the energy sector at both the senior executive and board levels.

Prior to February 1, 2014, Mr. Stickland was employed for 13 years by TransAlta Corp., one of Canada's largest non-regulated power generation and wholesale marketing companies.

At TransAlta, he held the position of chief business development officer.

Prior to that position, Mr. Stickland was the chief legal officer.

He also serves as the chair of the board of directors of Whitecap Resources Inc., an exploration and production company.
