Sun appoints former Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer as director

Alexander DownerSeptember 3, 2013, Sydney, Australia - Sun Resources NL, an oil and gas company, announces a number of changes to its board, effective September 23, 2013.
The following changes have been agreed by the Board: The Honourable Alexander Downer, AC will join the Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Mr. Downer has well established commercial and financial networks both in Australia and internationally. Mr. Downer had a long and distinguished political career spanning 23 years, including serving as leader of the Opposition from 1994 to 1995 and Foreign Minister of Australia from 1996 to 2007, the longest-serving in Australian history. Since retiring from politics, Mr. Downer has applied himself to commercial and cultural pursuits and currently sits on a number of boards.

Professor Ian Plimer, will also join the Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Professor Plimer is Emertitus Professor at the University of Melbourne and has been Head of the School of Earth Sciences (1991-2005). Professor Plimer has published more than 130 scientific papers and is the author of multiple best selling books for the general public. Professor Plimer’s main geological interests are in resources and he also serves on many listed and unlisted boards.

Additionally, it is agreed that Professor Plimer will also assume the Chairmanship of the Board of Sun at the AGM on 7 November 2013, and Dr. Wolf Martinick will remain as a NonExecutive Director.

Mathew Battrick, Sun’s Executive Director, Technical will retire as a Director, and will remain with the Company as the General Manager – Technical.
