Simon Thomas to take over as global head of marketing for VW Group AG

Simon ThomasAugust 5, 2013, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom - Volkswagen Group UK announced that Simon Thomas will take over responsibility for marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, effective September 1, 2013.
Mr. Thomas began his current role as Managing Director of Volkswagen Group (UK) Ltd. in September 2011, following an established career in the motor industry. Following a four year apprenticeship and qualification in 1980 as an automotive technician, Thomas moved to the Austin Rover Group in 1985 as a technical advisor, after which he then worked in service, sales and fleet field-based roles.

In 1991, Mr. Thomas moved to Nissan GB, where he later assumed the roles of Marketing Director and then Sales Director. He then relocated to Canada, where he took over responsibility for sales and marketing for both the Nissan and Infiniti brands. In 2007, he returned to Europe as Vice President of Sales for Nissan Europe, based in France. The following year he became Nissan Europe’s Senior Vice President, based in Switzerland. He spent four years there before joining the Volkswagen Group in 2011. He succeeds Jürgen Stackmann who became Chairman of SEAT S.A. on 1 May 2013.
