Phoenix Group Holdings director Alastair Lyons to retire

Phoenix Group HoldingsSeptember 24, 2013, London, United Kingdom - Phoenix Group Holdings announced that Alastair Lyons will retire from the board, effective September 30, 2013.
Mr. Lyons CBE was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Company as Senior Independent Director on 29 March 2010. He is also Chairman of Admiral Group plc and Serco Group plc, Deputy Chairman of Bovis Homes Group plc, and Chairman of the Towergate Insurance Group. He was Chief Executive Officer of the National Provident Institution, Executive Director of Abbey National, responsible for the insurance division, and Chief Executive Officer of National & Provincial Building Society.

Mr. Lyons is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and has been a Non-Executive Director of both the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Transport. He was awarded the CBE in the 2001 Birthday Honours for services to social security. He is Chairman of the Board Audit Committee.

The company also announced that Alastair Barbour will join the Phoenix Board as a non-executive director, effective October 1, 2013 and will succeed Mr. Lyons as Audit Committee Chair.

Mr. Barbour has more than 30 years audit experience from KPMG where he worked across the full spectrum of financial services clients from large general insurers and reinsurers to the life assurance and investment management sector. He is the former Head of Financial Services, Scotland for KPMG. He stepped down from this role in 2011 to build a non-executive career.

Mr. Barbour is a director and Audit Committee Chair of RSA Insurance Group plc, Standard Life European Equity Trust plc and Lion Trust Asset Management plc (all London Stock Exchange listed companies). He is also a director and Audit Committee Chair of CATCo reinsurance Opportunities Fund Ltd, a Bermuda licensed reinsurance company listed on the London Stock Exchange.

The company also announced that Ian Cormack will succeed Mr. Lyons as Senior Independent Director, effective October 1, 2013.

Mr. Cormack, Non-Executive Director & Remuneration Committee Chairman, is also Non-Executive Chairman of Maven Income & Growth VCT 4 plc and a Non-Executive Director of Bloomsbury Publishing plc, Aspen Insurance Holdings, Arria NLG Limited and Xchanging plc.

Mr. Cormack was Chief Executive Officer of AIG, Inc. in Europe and Chairman of Citibank International plc and co-head of the Global Financial Institutions Client Group at Citigroup. He served on the Board of Directors of the former Pearl Group Limited.
