NBT Bancorp CFO Michael J. Chewens to step down

NBT BancorpNBT Bancorp announced that, following a successful 25-year career with the company, Michael J. Chewens is stepping down from his position as CFO effective December 31, 2019.
Mr. Chewens will be retiring from the company on March 31, 2020.

Mr. Chewens will continue in his role as Chief Financial Officer until December 31, 2019 and then will remain with the Company during a transition period until his retirement date.

Mr. Chewens has been Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for NBT Bancorp Inc., and NBT Bank since January 2002.

Mr. Chewens began his career at NBT Bank in 1994, after gaining ten years of experience in accounting and auditing with KPMG.

He joined NBT Bancorp’s Executive Management Team in 1995 as Senior Vice President and head of the Risk Management Division.

In 1999, Mr. Chewens assumed responsibility for the company’s Finance Division as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of both NBT Bancorp and NBT Bank.

He held the position of Corporate Secretary from 2000 to 2010.

Mr. Chewens graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He earned an MBA from Syracuse University.

Mr. Chewens is a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
