Medtronic's COO Michael F. DeMane Leaves the Company

Medtronic IncApril 30, 2008, Minneapolis, Mn., USA - Medtronic Inc. announced that Chief Operating Officer Michael F. DeMane is leaving his post to pursue other opportunities after eight months on the job.
Mr. DeMane received his bachelor's of science degree in chemistry from St. Lawrence University, continued his studies in engineering at the University of Texas, and received his master’s of science degree in bioengineering from Clemson University.

Mr. DeMane later completed an advanced management program at the INSEAD School of Management in Fontainebleau, France. Mr. DeMane served from 1996 to 1998 as managing director, Australia and New Zealand, for Smith & Nephew. He came to that position following a series of research and development and general management positions within Smith & Nephew.

Mr. DeMane was president of Spinal Systems for Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Medtronic’s Spinal business, and after that he served as president of Medtronic Spinal, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), and Navigation (2002-2005). Mr. DeMane was appointed president of Medtronic Europe, Canada, Latin America and Emerging Markets in August 2005.

Medtronic will not replace DeMane. Instead, top officials in the global business units will report directly to President and Chief Executive William A. Hawkins, who was promoted from chief operating officer last year when former Chief Executive Arthur D. Collins retired.
