Marriott COO Robert McCarthy to retire in February

Robert J. McCarthySeptember 25, 2013, Bethesda, Md., USA - Marriott International, Inc. announced that Robert J. McCarthy, chief operations officer of the company, will retire at the end of February 2014 after 38 years of service.
Mr. McCarthy began his career as a waiter in a Marriott restaurant outside Philadelphia while attending Villanova University. He was promoted into increasingly higher level positions, including senior vice president, Northeast Region; executive vice president, operations planning and support; president, North American lodging operations; and group president, The Americas and global lodging services. He was appointed to his current position in late 2011.

Marriott also announced that several other executives will assume broader responsibilities.

David J. Grissen, currently group president Americas, will focus on driving global operational excellence, as well as overseeing the Americas taem.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Grissen served as President, Americas; Executive Vice President of the Eastern Region; Senior Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic Region and Senior Vice President of Finance and Business Development. He is chair of the Americas' Hotel Development Committee and a member of the Lodging Strategy Group and Corporate Growth Committee.

Mr. Grissen holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a master's degree from Loyola University in Chicago.

Stephanie Linnartz, recently appointed executive vice president and chief brand marketing and commercial officer, will assume leadership of technology.

Ms. Linnartz joined Marriott in 1997 and most recently served as Global Officer, Sales & Revenue Management. She has held various roles throughout her career with Marriott including: Senior Vice President, Global Sales; Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing Planning and Support; and Vice President, Sales & Marketing Channel Strategy & Analysis.

Ms. Linnartz was also Vice President, Revenue Management; Director, Business Transformation and Integration; Director, Development Finance; Manager, Lodging Finance; and Senior Financial Analyst, Lodging Finance and Business Development.

Prior to Marriott, Ms. Linnartz worked for the Hilton Hotels Corporation and held various positions in Sales and Operations in Honolulu, Hawaii and Washington, D.C.

She is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, holds a masters of business administration from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and has completed additional graduate studies at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Development in Bergen, Norway.
