Marathon Oil elects Morris R. Clark treasurer

Marathon OilDecember 13, 2013, Houston, Tx., USA - Marathon Oil Corporation announced that it has elected Morris R. Clark, currently Marathon Oil assistant treasurer, to the position of vice president and treasurer effective January 1, 2014.
Mr. Clark began his career with Marathon Oil in 2002 when he joined the Company as senior tax counsel. Between then and 2007, he provided extensive tax-related advice and counsel at both the corporate and business unit levels. He was appointed to his current position as assistant treasurer in 2007 and, since that time, has played an instrumental role in helping manage matters related to the Company's treasury needs.

His experience prior to joining Marathon Oil included serving as an accountant with Touche Ross & Company and as a tax attorney with Bracewell & Patterson and Enron North America.

Mr. Clark earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Southern University and subsequently earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane Law School, and later a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

He will succeed Michael K. Stewart, in his role as treasurer, who has elected to retire after 28 years of service, effective January 1, 2014.

Currently, Mr. Stewart serves as vice president of Accounting and Finance, Controller and Treasurer. He joined Marathon in 1985 and was elected to his current position in May 2006. In July 2005, Mr. Stewart was appointed controller of Marathon with responsibility for various accounting functions including those related to international and domestic business units, subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Beginning in 2002, Mr. Stewart served as director of internal audit for the Company worldwide, where he directed the internal audit activities. In 2001, he held the position of manager of internal reporting and external analysis. A year earlier, Mr. Stewart was named director of corporate staff for USX, the former holding company for Marathon Oil Company. He was promoted to audit manager at US Steel Corporation in 1998.

Prior to this, he held various management and professional positions in the Tax department, serving the Company in Findlay, Ohio, Houston and London. Mr. Stewart began his career in 1979 as an internal auditor for Exxon Mobil Corporation in Houston and later was a tax specialist with KPMG.

He is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and the University of Houston, Texas, where he earned a master’s degree in business administration. Mr. Stewart is a certified public accountant.

Following Mr. Stewart's retirement, John R. Sult, Marathon Oil executive vice president and chief financial officer., will serve as Marathon Oil's principal accounting officer in addition to his other responsibilities.
