Eland Oil & Gas appoints George Maxwell as CEO

Eland Oil & GasSeptember 8, 2014, London, United Kingdom - Eland Oil & Gas, an oil company, announced that George Maxwell has been appointed as its new chief executive.
Mr. Maxwell is the former chief financial officer at the company and, prior to joining Eland, he worked as general manager for Addax Petroleum, a unit of Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec, in Nigeria.

Les Blair, the incumbent chief executive, will now step down from the board of the company and take on a new role as strategic advisor.

Mr. Blair has over 30 years of upstream oil and gas industry experience, most recently with Addax. He spent more than a decade with Addax in Nigeria and Kurdistan holding a wide variety of senior executive positions in the UK, Spain, Libya, Vietnam, India, Nigeria, Kurdistan and Dubai.

In 2006 Mr. Blair assumed the position of General Manager of the operating company for the giant Taq Taq Field in Kurdistan and in 2008 became Managing Director of Addax Petroleum Middle East Limited based in Dubai. Prior to joining Addax in Nigeria, he held Country Manager positions with Enterprise Oil and British Gas in South East Asia.

Mr. Blair graduated from the University of Aberdeen in Finance & Economics and is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Accountant.

Mr. Maxwell's replacement as chief financial officer will be Louis Emmanuel Castro, a former non-executive director of the company and chair of its audit committee.

Mr. Maxwell has over 25 years of corporate finance and broking experience, in the UK and overseas, during which time he has been responsible for a number of oil, gas and mining IPOs and capital raisings.

Mr. Maxwell is Managing Director of Northland Capital Partners in London, previously being head of corporate finance at Matrix LLP and at Insinger de Beaufort. Prior to this he spent eight years at Williams de Broe, six years at Price Waterhouse and three years at SG Warburg.

Mr. Maxwell is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and graduated with a BSc & BComm (Hons) in Engineering Production & Economics from Birmingham University.
