Echo Therapeutics CEO Patrick D. Mooney is taking leave of absence

Patrick D. MooneyAugust 27, 2013, Philadelphia, Pa., USA - Echo Therapeutics announced that its chief executive officer, president and chairman of the board, Patrick D. Mooney, is taking an immediate leave of absence.
Mr. Mooney joined Echo in September 2007 as a result of the merger of Sontra Medical Corporation and then privately-held Echo Therapeutics, Inc. (ETI), for which he served as President, Chief Executive Officer and director from September 2006 through the date of the merger.

Prior to joining ETI, he was President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Aphton Corporation, where he had also served as Chief Medical Officer. Prior to that, he served as Senior Biotechnology Analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners and as Senior Biotechnology Analyst at Janney Montgomery Scott. He received his medical degree from the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and trained in surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

The company also announced that Robert Doman, a member of Echo's Board of Directors, will serve as Executive Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Doman has more than 30 years of executive level, international and domestic experience with specific concentrations in medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Most recently, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of DUSA Pharmaceuticals.

The company also announced that William F. Grieco, Chairman of the Company's Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee and a member of Echo's Board, has been appointed Lead Independent Director of the Board.

Mr. Grieco joined company's Board of Directors in February 2011. He brings approximately 30 years of healthcare industry experience. He has served as the Managing Director of Arcadia Strategies, as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of American Science and Engineering, and prior to that he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of IDX Systems Corporation.

Mr. Grieco was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Fresenius Medical Care North America. He received a B.S. from Boston College, an M.S. in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.
