David Roberts to be new chairman of Nationwide Building Society

NationwideMay 5, 2014, Swindon, United Kingdom - Nationwide Building Society, a financial company, announced that David Roberts will succeed Geoffrey Howe as chairman at the conclusion of the AGM in July 2015, when Mr. Howe retires.
Mr. Roberts will join Nationwide's Board as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman - Elect on September 1, 2014. He will join Nationwide from Lloyds Banking Group where he is Deputy Chairman and has been a Non-Executive Director since 2010. He has been Chairman of the Board Risk Committee at Lloyds from 2010 and became Deputy Group Chairman in 2012.

Mr. Roberts has held a number of senior positions in banking and finance: he was a main Board Director and Chief Executive Officer for International Retail and Commercial Banking at Barclays from 2004 to 2006 and was a member of the Group Executive Committee at Barclays from 2001 - 2006.

Mr. Roberts was Chairman of the Managing Board and Chief Executive at BAWAG PSK Gruppe, the second largest retail bank in Austria from 2007 to 2009. He has been a member of the Strategy Board at the Henley Business School in the University of Reading since 2008.

Mr. Howe is Non-Executive Director of Nationwide Building Society since January 2005 and Chairman since July 2007. He has considerable regulatory, management and legal experience in financial services, insurance and investment markets. He is currently the Chairman of Nationwide Building Society and of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc.

Mr. Howe is also a director of Close Brothers Group plc. He was formerly Chairman of Railtrack Group plc, a director of Investec plc, a director and General Counsel of Robert Fleming Holdings Limited and Managing Partner of international law firm Clifford Chance.
