Citi: Joaquin Cottani chief economist for Latin America

Joaquin CottaniOctober 22, 2010, New York, USA - Citi announced that Joaquin Cottani will join as chief economist for Latin America within Citi’s Investment Research & Analysis group, effective November 1, 2010.
Mr. Cottani is best-known for having played a key role during the 1990s in economic policymaking for the Republic of Argentina: as Undersecretary of Macroeconomic Policy, as Undersecretary of Finance and as Argentina's financial representative to Washington.

Following these appointments Mr. Cottani served as Chief Latin American Economist for Lehman Brothers between 1998 and 2003, and subsequently served as the Lead Economist for Mexico and Colombia at the World Bank, where he was responsible for identifying lending opportunities, and for developing lending and research strategies.

Most recently Mr. Cottani has served as the economist responsible for Argentina at GlobalSource Partners, an exclusive network of highly respected analysts. He has also recently been working as a Washington-based consultant in various capacities.

Mr. Cottani was educated in Argentina and has a PhD from Yale University. He has a number of academic publications to his name, and has held teaching positions at universities both in Argentina and in the US.
