Microsoft Surface 3
Hybrid   New Microsoft device is the best Surface so far

Microsoft introduced the Surface 3, its newest tablet. There was no big bang and no spectacular press conference and this is a shame: this device certainly deserves our attention.

Microsoft Surface 3The price starts at $499 and for that money you'll get a lot. The tablet/laptop runs full Windows 8.1, making it more powerful and very versatile because it can run full desktop applications. For those of you depending on mobile networks and no Wi-Fi in sight, there is a 4G version so you can work on your business documents using all standard applications (and maybe play a little along the way) on the move, something that's not so possible with the Surface Pro 3.

Microsoft Surface 3Surface's 10.8-inch 1920 x 1280 screen is large enough to comfortably carry out almost any task on and its 3:2 aspect ratio is designed to make it easy to use in either portrait or landscape orientation. An 8 megapixel rear and 3.5 megapixel front-facing camera ensure you can take snaps and shoot video as you like and the battery is enough for up to 10 hours of use, so it should be enough for a busy working day. The device is charged using a standard micro USB charger.

Microsoft Surface 3Regarding the design, Microsoft Surface 3 is slim, very stylish, 8.7mm thick, and with a kickstand it can be used in three positions, making it easier to get it in a comfortable position. There is also an optional Type Cover keyboard which lets you turn it into a full laptop. Its heart is a quad-core Intel Atom processor and up to 4GB of memory ensure it never slows down and as well as tapping on the screen you can also use the Surface Pen for more fine control, making it ideal as a digital art tool.

Surface's 64 or 128GB of memory gives you plenty to play with and Microsoft includes a one year subscription to Office 365 with your purchase. The Microsoft Surface 3 goes on sale on May 5, but you can already pre-order it.
