Latvia gasLatvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma said that U.S. gas companies might enter the Lavian market in two years time.

Straujuma made the remarks upon her return from visit to the United States on Saturday, adding that Latvia has homework to do.

Straujuma noted that gas was one of the main topics she discussed during meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz in Washington earlier this week. U.S. gas companies are currently considering their export to the European countries, as well as NATO ones.

Latvia should work on technical issues such as access to a regional liquefied natural gas terminal (LNG).

Latvia plans gas market liberalization over the next three years in line with the demand of the European Union's Third Energy Package.
