For the start, 10,000 refugees in the Netherlands will get a prepaid SIM card so that they can contact family and friends in their country of origin. Both organisations will in the near future explore further cooperation.

On Wednesday, the first 100 SIM cards were handed out in a refugee center in Utrecht. The organizations hope that through mobile internet and apps young refugees find their way in society. This includes translation, guidance, and information apps.

Dorine Manson, director of Refugee Netherlands, said: "Not every refugee can afford to give a sign of life to relatives. These SIM cards make possible for these people to commit the perhaps the most important phone call of their lives."
