Tanzania's President John Magufuli said plans were afoot to buy 37 new passenger wagons and 800 new freight wagons, including refrigerated wagons for ferrying perishables such as vegetables and fruits, for the country's revived central railway line.

Launching the revived Dar es Salaam-Tanga-Kilimanjaro-Arusha railway line managed by the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Magufuli added that plans were also underway to buy 39 new locomotive engines for the central railway line.
The president said in his address televised live from Arusha that the revived railway line should be used as an economic lifeline to people in the areas it passed through.
Masanja Kadogosa, TRC director general, said revival work of the railway line was financed locally and was done by locals. ■
