Taiwan to invest NT$50 billion in 5G

Taiwan's government will invest up to NT$50 billion ($1.709 billion) in 5G in the next five years, according to vice president William Lai.

Lai made the remarks at a recent technology forum on optimizing 5G, AI and IoT solutions to usher in applications for smart home, smart factories, smart medical and others in the 5G era, including narrowing the digital gap between urban and rural areas and the implementation of 5G public welfare services.

The budget for the 5G infrastructure is part of a fund for the nation's second basic infrastructure project to be implemented from September 2021 to August 2025.
