Switzerland to ban lead-contaminated wood in waste wood facilities

Staff writer ▼ | October 20, 2015
As of mid-November, lead-contaminated wood will no longer be permitted as fuel in Swiss waste wood incineration facilities.
Ecology   Clean air law
Such wood is to be processed in the future solely in municipal waste incinerators or in cement kilns, which are equipped with considerably more efficient emission reduction technology, the Swiss Federal Council has announced.

The new regulation is part of an amendment to Switzerland's clean air law, due to take effect on 16 November. Wood wastes covered by the ban include, for instance, window frames coated with lead-based paints.
