Serbian parliament approves EAEU free trade deal

The Serbian parliament on Monday passed a bill approving a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) that gives Serbia access to a market of over 180 million consumers.

"This agreement poses no threat to our European path because the EU is not only our top foreign policy goal but also our top external trade partner, accounting for 65 pct of our overall trade, while EAEU member states account for around 7 pct," Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said in a debate.

He noted Russia accounted for around 90 pct of Serbia's trade with the EAEU.

"The agreement with the EAEU is not only beneficial to our businesspeople doing business with EAEU member states at the same time, it is also a major motivation for foreign investors to come here," Mali said.

The parliament also passed a bill approving an agreement on an approx. 43 mln euro International Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan for development of entrepreneurship, the Science Fund and scientifiic research.
