Rajoy went on to add that "a commitment to tourism is a commitment to our shared prosperity".

The President of the Government stressed that "Spain is a leading global tourism powerhouse", which is confirmed by figures from the World Tourism Organisation (WTO).

He also stressed that the Government of Spain "was clear from the outset that tourism should be a priority", which led to approval of the National Comprehensive Tourism Plan - "the backbone" of tourism reform.

Mariano Rajoy said that the figures posted by the Spanish tourism sector are "impressive". For example, Spain was visited by 64.6 million tourists in 2015 to November (three million more than in the previous year), who spent a total of 63.66 billion euros, representing an increase of 6.4% on 2014.
