Pakistan Railways inaugurates e-ticketing system

The inauguration ceremony was held in Lahore at Pakistan Railways’ Headquarters. CEO Railways Javed Anwer, GM Railways Anjum Pervez and other prominent names from railway department were also present, Rida Naveed reports for Phone World.

Now customers will be able to book their tickets via Internet and Mobile Phones, with this ticketing system. The payments will be done through credit cards, debit cards, mobile banking accounts or UBL Omni.

As soon as booking is done and payment is made, an approval message will be sent to the user. The message will have important details including ticket number, coach number, seat number, identity card number, and whole date of travel.

At present Pakistan Railways only have 45 booking offices over the country. But now with the takeoff of this facility travelers will have admittance to 45,000 UBL Omni branches.

It is initially introduced for the routes Lahore-Rawalpindi Railcar and Islamabad-Karachi Green Line Train. And it is anticipated to scale to other routes within a time period of 8 months.

BookMe, a ticketing startup based out of Lahore, for bus travelers is already offering many services. The startup also provides an API to incorporate to third party applications.

With Pakistan Railways speeding up in technology implementation, there are probabilities that the same system will be made well-organized to use for other transportation means in the country.
