Nigeria lottery, foreign firms sign n400m sports equipment deal

China Sports International, China and CAAN sports organisation from Turkey have signed a contract agreement worth N483, 820, 344 million with the National Lottery Trust Fund for the supply of sport equipments.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony in Abuja, executive secretary of the fund Habu Gumel said the contract agreement involves the supply of various branded sports equipment covering athletics, volley ball, football, handball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, judo and taekwondoý to 1000 primary schools across the country.

He stressed that the intervention programme was in a bid to promote grassroots sportsý development in the country.

Gumel noted that "some of the specific objectives of the programme include enhancing our capacity to grow and expand the nation's talent-based by securing the interest and involvement of our children of primary school age in sporting activities."

The programme according to him "is expected to improve our future performance in sports at all levels by harnessing the potentials of our young talents and nurturing their transition to world-class athletes, ýsportsmen and women".

He informed that a survey has already been conducted and prospective primary schools to benefit from the intervention programme had been identified.
