Bulgaria Suitable gas infrastructure is needed
“We will work so that Bulgaria is a gas distribution centre of Europe,” said Minister Petkova, speaking at the inauguration.
“It is highly important for Bulgaria we follow our policy in the field of energy, the main priority of which is namely diversification of natural gas delivery sources and routes.
Suitable infrastructure is needed in the first place to have a gas hub and diversification. Everything the government is now doing and the efforts it makes are aimed at developing international connections between Bulgaria and its neighbours. We will then have real diversification of sources and route for supplies,” Minister Petkova commented.
In her words, there will be no obstacles afterwards for Bulgaria’s becoming a gas distribution centre of Europe.
According to Temenuzhka Petkova, all prerequisites for that, such as a suitable geographic location, exist.
“Bulgaria is a natural hub through which natural gas routes both from the east and south pass through. 80% of compressor stations in the region are located on Bulgaria’s territory,” the minister pointed out. In her words, local extraction will be also relied on.
The official pointed to Romania, where 90% of the country’s needs are met due to local extraction, Focus Information Agency reports. ■
