Latvia to build 235 charging stations by 2022

The network of charging stations for electric automobiles will be expanded in Latvia, a total of 235 new charging stations will be built, LETA learned from the Transport Ministry.

The project will cost EUR 8.34 million, of which European Regional Development Fund will provide EUR 7.09 million and the state budget EUR 1.25 million.

Sixty charging stations will be built at Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) roads by 2020, no more than thirty kilometers from one another.

Also, 175 charging stations will be built on regional roads by August 1, 2022, with the distance between any two stations not exceeding fifty kilometers.

Eleven charging stations have been built in Latvia thus far, including six in Riga. As of December 31 last year, there were 194 electric automobiles in Latvia. Thanks to the development of the charging stations network, the number of electric automobiles in Latvia is expected to reach about 747.

The project is yet to be reviewed by the government.
