The Hungarian Government has plant to develop the country’s key road network, with a budget of €9.85 billion having been set for upgrade works.
Europe This budget will be used from now until 2024
A key focus will be on building new dual carriageways and motorways, with much of the funding coming from the central budget.
The programme of works will see the total distance of dual carriageways and motorways in Hungary being extended from 1,300km at present to a total 2,500km once the plan is complete.
The M76 dual carriageway connecting Zalaegerszeg with Balatonszentgyorgy will be of note as it will feature technology allowing it to be used by autonomous vehicles.
The plans also call for a new motorway section connecting Bekescsaba with Debrecen, and running close to the border with Romania. ■
