Greece considers options for relaunch of lignite-fired units

Staff Writer | February 14, 2019
Following the failure of the PPC’s tender to dispose the two lignite-fired units, the Energy Ministry is reportedly mulling the presentation to the European Commission an alternative scenario in a bid to avoid the sale of some of PPC’s hydroelectric units.
Europe   Greece will have to sell hydroelectric units
Under the agreement with creditors, Greece will have to sell hydroelectric units, in case the lignite capacity is not divested.

Press reports claimed that the Energy Ministry is considering to assign to the privatization fund TAIPED the tender process of the lignite units.

Still, the proposal is seen unlikely to get the go ahead by the Directorate General for Competition, and the possibility of the sale of hydroelectric units looms large.
