The French government unveiled legislation intended to make dealings with the authorities easier for citizens and businesses.

France   Businesses will be able to ask authorities
In line with a campaign promise of President Emmanuel Macron, people who in good faith fall foul of certain regulations will suffer reduced or no penalties.

The measures are intended to "repair and transform the relationship between our fellow citizens and the administration," Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said.

Businesses will be able to ask authorities to check their procedures if they are in doubt, and in such cases a presumption of good faith will apply if irregularities are found.

Taxpayers who mistakenly under-report their income will only pay half the usual late payment interest if they voluntarily notify the authorities of their error.
