Southeast AsiaThe European Union (EU) has launched the EU Business Avenues in South-East Asia, a support programme for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the EU.

During this pilot phase, 120 companies will be selected to take part in three one-week business missions, where they will engage with relevant counterparts in Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Michael Pulch, the EU Ambassador, said the programme would strengthen the presence of SMEs from the EU in key markets in South-East Asia.

Business Avenues seeks to help businesses from the EU better understand the characteristics of the Asean market, with the ultimate goal of establishing mutually beneficial and lasting business relationships between companies in the EU and Asean.

During the pilot phase, the Business Avenues programme will focus on clean technologies and interior design sectors, providing strategic, logistic and financial support to SMEs from the EU looking to gain first-hand experience of dynamic local markets.

Clean Technologies 2014 will be EU Business Avenues' inaugural mission in Asean.

This first mission will take place in Singapore and Malaysia from October 27-31, 2014.
