Energy Minister says Egypt signs 32 PPAs for solar energy

The Minister of Electricity and Energy Mohamed Shaker said that Egypt has taken important steps to benefit from the enormous potential of renewable energy.

The minister added that 32 solar energy purchase agreements have already been signed and are currently being implemented as the largest solar power plant in the world in one place in the area of ​​Benaban south of Aswan city with total capacity of 1465 MW.

The rest of the capacity will be gradually integrated into the unified electricity network by the end of 2019.

He pointed out that an energy strategy was put in place in Egypt until 2035, which includes maximizing the participation of renewable energy in the energy mix to reach about 42% in 2035.

The integrated and sustainable energy strategy in Egypt has coincided with the sustainable development strategy (Egypt 2030 vision) 17 for sustainable development.
