Green China   More than 13 million new jobs

China’s State Council approved $365 billion for investment in renewable energy projects under its new plan to counter pollution by 2020.

The Chinese government approved the plan to renew the country’s energy production model by saving energy and reducing emissions, and expects the initiative to create more than 13 million new jobs.

Currently, coal is the main source of energy in China and represents about 64 percent of the country’s energy consumption, according to 2015 figures.

The government also proposed steps, including increasing controls on harmful emissions, development of a circular economy, improved management, and better funding to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Around 100 cities in northern and central China have faced high pollution levels since the end of December, leading to activation of high alerts over bad air quality.
