Bolsonaro downplays coronavirus, gets protests

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro again downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus and received pot-banging demonstrations for the eighth night in row in several cities of the country, in protest to that behavior.

During a statement on national radio and television on Tuesday, the far-right president once again compared the coronavirus pandemic with a flu or a cold and asked mayors and governors to 'abandon the concept of devastated land,' which includes for him the closure of trade 'and mass confinement.'

'The risk group is people over 60 years of age. So why to close schools? Fatal cases of healthy people under 40 years of age are rare,' the former military man said amazing, and recommended that Brazil 'return to normal.'

Following his speech, protesters bang pots from balconies and windows to demand the president resigns in neighborhoods such as Bela Vista and Santa Cecilia, in central Sao Paulo state.
