Belarus preparing for FTA between Ukraine and EU

Ukraine and Belarus have agreed to set up an expert group to assess the prospects of trade and economic relations between the two countries after the introduction of a free trade area (FTA) between Ukraine and the European Union.

"By the time of an official visit by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov to Belarus, which is scheduled for October 7-8 this year, Ukraine and Belarus will create an expert group that will assess the current state of trade and economic relations and the prospects for their development after the introduction of a free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union," the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers has reported.

Respective agreement was reached at a meeting between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his Belarusian counterpart Mikhail Myasnikovich in Astana.

According to the government's press service, the Belarusian side is showing keen interest in the process of European integration and the new terms of the trade regime that will be established after the formation of a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU.
