The World Championship Cheese Contest is held every two years and is said to be the largest technical cheese contest in the world.
World Championship Cheese Contest
Wisconsin    A cheese lover’s paradise
On March 3-5, experts from around the globe will evaluate contest entries in Madison, Wisconsin. Officials said 3,667 cheeses, yogurts, butters and other dairy products were submitted and the entries come from 26 different countries and 36 states in the United States.

Starting from a maximum possible 100 points, deductions are made for various defects found by each judge. Defects are noted in the areas of flavor, body and texture, salt, color, finish, packaging and other appropriate attributes.

Entries with a trier hole will be disqualified; except entries sent in their complete, original form in the Swiss Style Classes, which may have one trier hole. Any cheese containing vegetable oils will be disqualified from the competition. The only exception to this rule is products entered in the Cheese Based Spread class.

Eveluation rounds of judging are open to the public and there will be an evening of cheese sampling! On March 5, 2020, (ticketed event, $30), a new world champion will be named at the contest’s signature public event.

Winners receive elegant handmade plaques showcasing the World Championship Cheese Contest medallion and access to the contest logo artwork for use in promoting their success.
