McClure Bean
Pennsylvania   Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the shows
The 129th McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair, underway until September 19, combines a lot of fun, good food, and great music and you still three days to visit McClure, Pa. and see why the festival that started in 1891 is still alive and kicking these days.

The Bean Soup Celebration invited the public to a real Civil War bean soup dinner in 1891 and now September is the month of The McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair, a celebration of homecomings, food, laughing, games, and music.

Just a few things to get the taste of what's expecting you in McClure, Pa.

There are contests: wheelbarrow decorating contest, decorate a pumpkin contest; farmyard games from egg toss to corn shelling; food contests from homemade ice cream to milk chugging; baby bean photo contest; just to name a few; and excellent music.

You still have time to hear Hawkshaw Hawkins Jr. with Make Mine Country, Central Pennsylvania’s most accomplished and versatile musicians (September 17), Best Friends Girl that recreates the timeless hits of The Cars (September 18), and Ole 97 Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute Band, which needs no description at all (September 19).

The McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair's motto is "Making Memories One Fair at a Time" and it's so true: This is one of those small town, great heart festivals that you will remember for years to come with a smile on your face. But the chance is you will return to it more than once.
