Tunisia's olive oil exports break record with $763.7 million

Tunisia posted record-breaking olive oil exports in the 2014/2015 crop, with revenues of 1.5 TND million ($763.7 million) up until June, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mines said.

These revenues from shipments of the product contributed for the improvement of the Tunisian trade balance, despite the decline of some of the country’s economic indicators.

The exported volume of olive oil increased seven times over the previous cycle and reached 242,000 tons up until the end of last month, with the average price going up 3.5%.

The external sales of packed olive oil increased 14% in the same comparison and reached 12,000 tons.

According to estimates, the rhythm of exports of the product will speed up until the end of the current crop and new records will be broken.
