The NetherlandsThe Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) supported the attraction of 193 foreign investment projects in 2013, representing nearly 8,500 jobs and the planned investment of $2.31 billion. The record jobs figure represents a 60% increase over the previous year.

While the most projects (75) originated in Asia, North America recorded 36 percent of the total (70). A rise in the number of projects from Europe (34) is a particularly significant increase over last year's total of 12. China posted 26 projects, South Korea 15, the United Kingdom 13 and India 11.

The United States maintains its top spot as the leading single-country investor overall with 64 projects. In addition, it is the source for the most jobs (3,190) and the highest investment amount ($1.11 billion).

In North America, a total of 21 headquarters projects out-paced the number attributed to European distribution centers (15). Marketing and sales activity and service centers tied for third place with 8 projects apiece. Similar to the last several years, the IT sector led the way with the most projects (21), followed by Life Sciences and Health (16).

The NFIA is an operational unit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The NFIA helps and advises foreign companies on the establishment, rolling out and/or expansion of their international activities in the Netherlands.

The NFIA was established more than 35 years ago, and has since supported more than 4,000 companies from over 50 countries in the establishment or expansion of their international activities in the Netherlands. Besides its headquarters in The Hague, the NFIA has its own offices in the United Kingdom, Turkey, North America, Asia and the Middle East, as well as Brazil.
