Syrian oil sector losses six billion dollars

The Syrian Petroleum Company revealed on Sunday that the sector''s total losses reach six billion dollars since the beginning of the war imposed on the country from 2011 until 2018.

According to a report on the matter, in the first half of this year the total value of material damage to facilities and wells, among others, amounted to about 120 million dollars as a result of looting, sabotage and theft of equipment.

However, the document specified, well rehabilitation is still under way to increase production after the release of several areas in the central region and Deir Ezzor.

On the other hand, the information required, the company's oil production amounted to an average of more than 5,500 barrels per day, during the first half of 2018 and that of gas to 9.66 million cubic meters per day.

Syria currently depends on almost one hundred percent of the gas for the generation of electricity, whose recovery made it possible to significantly reduce the power cuts in the regions freed from terrorist groups.

It is worth pointing out, the reports indicated, that the Syrian Army liberated important gas and oil production areas in the provinces of Homs, Deir Ezzor and Raqqa, basically, and that they were the main target of terrorist actions.
