Spain trade of olive oil beats record

OlivesThe mass marketing of olive oil (sum of the outputs on the internal and external market), since the start of the 2013/2014 campaign has reached 500,100 tonnes, 30% up on the previous year.


This is also 18% more the average of the last four, according to the Spain's Ministry of Agriculture.

The average monthly output of the semester (October 2013 to January 2014) stood at 125.030 tonnes, so that both the total sales volume this month and cumulatively to date represent a record high.

This record marketing is mainly due to strong growth in exports, with still provisional for the January data, reaching 320,800 tonnes in the quarter, an increase of 45% over the previous season.

Meanwhile, on the domestic market have been marketed 179,300 tonnes, 10% above last year and 1% from the average of the four previous campaigns. The average monthly output in this section has been 44,820 tons. Meanwhile, imports, with provisional data for January are estimated at 25,900 tonnes.
