Service fees reduced for Albertans when paying fines online

Staff Writer | July 9, 2016
Starting July 8, Albertans can pay their fines online through fines.alberta.ca. In addition to traffic tickets, any ticket with a voluntary payment amount can be paid.

This is including tickets for common liquor offences and LRT or C-Train violations. The online ticket payment page is part of the larger MyAlberta eServices portal.

Paying traffic and other tickets expands the list of online government services available to Albertans on the MyAlberta eServices portal. Other services available include driver’s licence and vehicle registration renewal reminders and security licences.

Until July 7, online fine payments were processed by the Association of Alberta Registry Agents and the Alberta Motor Association at a cost of $6 per transaction.

This new service will also free up court resources. The MyAlberta eServices portal will have real-time access to court data, which significantly reduces error rates and time spent by court staff making corrections. This time could be used to provide other court-related services to Albertans.
