2017 was extremely agitated for the domestic forestry sector, amid important changes in legislation, as well as aggressive increases of wood prices, Romania becoming – for the first time – a net importer of logs, digi24.ro informs, quoting Mediafax.

“The average starting price was RON 180.26 per cubic meter and the average bid price was 43 percent higher, meaning RON 258.75 per cubic meter.
“On average, the cubic meter of softwood was awarded with RON 317.05, the beech cubic meter with RON 238.5, and the cubic meter of oak with RON 388.06, the price increases, following the public auctions, being of 52 percent for softwoods, 43 percent for oak and 41 percent for beech,” Romsilva recently announced.
National Forest Administration has for 2018 a harvesting program of 9.98 million cubic meters. Romsilva manages 3.14 million hectares of state-owned forest fund – about 47 percent of the total national forest fund. ■
