Sale of electric cars and plug-in hybrids in Europe meanwhile soared 108.8%, the association of Estonian car dealers and service companies AMTEL said.

In major European markets, such as Germany, France and the UK, growth of 80-100% was recorded. In the Netherlands, electric cars and plug-in hybrids accounted for almost 10% of all new car sales.

AMTEL said the reason for the drop in electric car sales here is that Estonia is one of the few European Union countries where the acquisition and use of electric cars is not supported after the money earned from the sale of carbon credits ran out.
