The event may also translate into economic gains, at least in the short term. Gesner Oliveira, managing partner of GO Associados, estimates R$2.4 billion ($751 million) in additional spending coming from visitors to the Olympics, an amount that can leverage more than R$8 billion in terms of income.

The positive impact around the opening ceremony on August 5 has reversed the negative impression that prevailed about the event so far.

The Impact and Prospect Index Brazil (IP Brasil), monitored by .MAP Mapeamento, Análise, Perspectiva reached 61% in the first week of August, the highest level of the series, which began being tracked a year ago.
