Massachusetts most innovative state, Mississippi least innovative

America   Massachusetts scored highly in several key categories

Innovation helps drive economic growth, and according to WalletHub, some states are better at it than others.

Massachusetts is the most innovative state waccording to the study, which compared 50 states and the District of Columbia across 24 key indicators of innovation-friendliness, including share of STEM professionals, R&D spending per capita, tech-company density and invention patents per capita.

Massachusetts scored highly in several key categories, such as tying for first in R&D spending per capita and ranking fourth for share of STEM professionals and projected STEM job demand by 2020.

It was followed in the overall innovation rankings by Washington state, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Colorado.

The least innovative state is Mississippi, followed by Louisiana, West Virginia, Iowa and Tennessee, according to the study.
