Asia   The Orumieh-Erbil direct flights are important for Iran

A new air route is expected to start operation between Iran and the Iraqi region of Kurdistan with direct flights connecting the Iranian northwestern city of Orumieh and Erbil in northern Iraq.

Director General of Airports of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province Kamal Parhizkar told Fars News Agency that the first direct flight from Orumieh, the capital city of West Azarbaijan Province, to Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s capital city of Erbil will be carried out in the near future.

The Iranian official said that the Orumieh-Erbil direct flights are important for Iran since a large number of passengers travel between the two cities.

Parhizkar said that direct flights to the Republic of Azerbaijan from the Orumieh Airport have been postponed due to the recent sharp increase in flight ticket prices.

Meanwhile, he said that after the month of Ramadan, efforts will be resumed to establish direct flights to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
