Initial jobless claims for August 23 to August 29 rose by 12,000 to 282,000, which is the highest level since the end of June.

The four-week moving average was 275,500, an increase of 3,250 from the previous week’s revised average.
No states were estimated last week and there was nothing unusual in the data, a Labor Department spokesman said as the report was released to the press.
The Labor Department added 2.26 million people were already collecting weekly unemployment benefits, known as continuing claims, in the week to August 22, a 9,000 decline from the prior week. ■
