The road link will be 75km in length and is expected to cost $350 million to construct in all.

The project will include building tunnel sections as well as bridges.

Meanwhile work will be carried out on a road tunnel section by the Iran Water & Power Resources Development Company (IWPCO).

The tunnel forms part of the M34 highway, linking capital Dushanbe with the city of Khujand, in the north east of the country.

The tunnel was originally constructed in 2006 with engineering assistance from Iran.
