The 10-member ASEAN received an average of $125 billion in foreign investment a year between 2013 and 2015, the ministry's data showed.

Taiwan historically has invested more in Vietnam than in any other ASEAN country, injecting a total of $31.59 into the country between 1959 and March 2016 to make Taiwan Vietnam's fourth largest source of investment during that time.

Taiwan lagged notably behind China, which invested $8.2 billion to rank as the fourth biggest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in ASEAN, and fifth-placed South Korea, which invested $5.7 billion in the region.
